Charles Connell started his career with the Ottawa Juniors at age sixteen.
He graduated to the Senior Senator team in 1919 before joining the powerful Balmy Beaches of Toronto, Ontario. He played with such notables as Ted Reeve (Charter), Cecil Duncan, and the Sproule brothers. He returned to the Ottawa Emmetts the following year where he spent the next six years. They won the Eastern Championships five times and the Minto Cup in his final year.
Later, he refereed and coached in the Ottawa/Hull area.
