Cy Coombes played all his minor and junior lacrosse in Peterborough, Ontario, moving to the Senior Petes from 1958 to 1960, Brooklin from 1961 to 1962, and back to Peterborough until 1973.

He ended his career in the Professional League as a playing coach of the Maryland Arrows in 1974 and 1975. Cy was an accomplished scorer, amassing an incredible 1,009 goals and 588 assists for a career 1,597 points. He played on numerous Mann Cup teams and coached the Hastings Minto Cup team in 1961.

Cy remained involved in the game by coaching junior and senior after he retired.
